We pride ourselves in bringing you original content here on RFD.  This is not a news regurgitation site.  But when Hoonigan blows up my inbox with a midnight press release for Gymkhana Eight (below), I figured what the hell.  This is certainly the kind of thing our readers live for, sideways action in a 650hp Fiesta RX43 through the streets of Dubai.  But there’s always more after the credits, and this time (around 8:38 in the video) we get a hint at Block’s new Gymkhana Nine car, the Ford Focus RS RX.

There is a lot of speculation over what this car is exactly.  Based on the RX designation, we’re putting our money on a Ford-backed RallyCross car.  Don’t forget to check out our guide to being a Rally enthusiast On the Cheap which will soon be followed up by a RallyCross-specific article.  N0 pressure Justin.  We may even put our money where our mouth is and launch or own rally squad, stay tuned.  In the meantime, enjoy the video and some bonus pics courtesy Hoonigan.

KEN BLOCK DEBUTS GYMKHANA EIGHT: ULTIMATE EXOTIC PLAYGROUND; DUBAI

LOS ANGELES, CA, February 29, 2016Head Hoonigan in charge, Ken Block, has taken his smoky, sideways driving style to his most exotic destination yet, Dubai, for the eighth installment of his 350+ million-view Gymkhana viral video franchise.

Starring Block and an updated version of his world-famous Ford Fiesta ST RX43 rallycross car, Gymkhana EIGHT is filmed in the ultimate exotic playground of Dubai and is Block’s most cinematic film to-date.  Block’s Fiesta also lights up the screen, literally, thanks to a unique, ultra reflective livery that was created specifically for Gymkhana EIGHT.  (Missed the Ultra Reflective Livery Reveal and Hoonigan Clothing Capsule? Check out the video here: https://youtu.be/8-UEF6OJOT4.)

“I realize it sounds cliché to say it, but this is probably my favorite Gymkhana thus far,” said Block. “The fact that we were able to shut down the Sheik Zayed Road for only the second time in the history of Dubai [the road is the main highway in Dubai and has only been fully shut down once previously, when President George W. Bush visited in 2008], have access to a fully shutdown airport runway with a 747 and to be able to film in Burj Park, which is part of the world’s tallest building [the Burj Khalifa] is absolutely awesome. Now would be a great time for me to be able to say a huge heartfelt thank you to the people of Dubai for letting us come and make this awesome video, so, thank you!”

Other features in the film include a Ford Raptor driving-on-two-wheels as an obstacle for Block, the entire Dubai Police Force’s Exotic Cars division on set at all times—and featured as an obstacle at one point—two Ford Performance-related “Easter Eggs,” within the video, a very special set of credits, and much, much more.

With the arrival of the latest Gymkhana video, Hoonigan has released a subsequent capsule clothing collection that features the Gymkhana EIGHT black-on-black livery.  Each piece has a reflective ink and clear gel ink pattern that gives the pieces 3D depth and emulates the reflective livery.  The Limited Edition capsule includes fleece, tees, tanks, socks and a collaboration Melin x Hoonigan hat all which capture the livery featured in the highly anticipated video.

About Hoonigan:

Spawned in 2011 by DC Shoes co-founder Ken Block and 0-60 Magazine Editor-in-Chief Brian Scotto, Hoonigan is a motorsports-lifestyle brand with a penchant for automotive debauchery.  The company is dedicated to creating authentic products for the rebellious gear head.  It’s name, a portmanteau (look it up, yo!), is the combination of ‘hooligan’ and ‘hoon,’ the Australian term for screwing about in cars.  In addition to Block – made famous by his Gymkhana films – the Hoonigan team boasts a roster ranging from world champion drifters to Baja 1000 winners.
