Long-Term 1994 Miata One Year Report

1994 Mazda Miata

ONE YEAR MIATA CHECK-IN

Something odd has happened here.  I’ve owned a car for more than one year now and this is not just any car.  This is a two-seater, convertible, rear-wheel drive roadster! A 1994 Mazda Miata has won my heart over for the past year and I now completely understand why the answer is always Miata.

I purchased this car one year ago from an elderly lady in Southern New Jersey and you can check that story out here. A couple months later found out that it has some of the rarest Mazda Miata wheels ever! And even, later on, I got confirmation that in fact, they are the rarest wheels ever! I then found myself in a parking lot in Northern Maryland and took it racing a couple of times on an autocross course.  Got spanked, but had some serious fun.  Isn’t that what it’s all about?

Then something happened about midway through ownership.  Things started to go wrong and I doubted my purchase.  I got pissed off – I wanted to sell it.  It was leaking.  Things were not looking good in the long-term for the Miata.

But you know what!?  I fixed everything that was wrong with it.  I changed the timing belt and replaced the valve cover gasket.  Putting a little bit of elbow grease into something really changes your perspective.  And now me and my Miata have hit one year and it feels good.  I’m not saying that if a better car comes along that I’ll pass up on it.  But I am saying that I have a sneaking suspicion that an 18-month report will be coming up and it will be working studded snow tires at that point.

Here’s are the major updates:

Mileage:

Starting Mileage(8/30/2016): 108,763

Current Mileage (8/18/2017): 111,864

Total Miles Driven One Year: 3,111

What’s Next For the Miata?

Not sure what to do next. For the time being, I’m just going to enjoy it.  All the major maintenance items have been fixed.  It runs great and is a fun commuter car.  I’m kind of pumped to throw some studded snow tires on it and see what it can do!
