Preview: 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia

2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia

If you read RFD regularly, you’ll know that I recently spent time driving around Europe.  Much like my friends and coworkers, you may be tired of hearing about it, but I don’t really care.  It was a great experience, particularly from an automotive perspective and I came back wanting, nay needing, and Italian car.  An Alfa Romeo if possible.  It just so happens that they are prepping more vehicles for the US market, and one of them has my attention.  It’s called the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia, and it’s a sedan.  A very striking and attractive sedan.  Look at it.

2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia

We are still waiting on US version specs, but expect it to be about the size and price of a 3-series BMW.  What we do have so far from Alfa sounds great. The new rear wheel drive platform it sits on is said to be the underpinnings for the brand new Dodge Charger as well.  Which would mean a smaller, lighter 4-door from Dodge, this is getting good.

The top spec model, dubbed the Quadrifoglio, is said to have a 50/50 weight distribution and distributes somewhere in the low to mid 3000 pound range across its chassis.  Oh, and it’s got a 503-hp twin-turbocharged V-6.  Yes, you heard that correctly.  Five hundred and three.  Horsepower.  Alfa claims a sub 4 second sprint to 62mph which sounds doable with that power-to-weight ratio.  Other Giulias will make due with normally aspirated 6-cylinder, and perhaps turbo 4-cylinder engines with AWD a rumored option.

Pricing and exact specs will be released later, and if you take a look at Alfa’s US site, there is a teaser up already.  It’s certainly a great feeling to see a new Alfa sedan listed amongst the available vehicles alongside the gorgeous 4C.  This is happening people, take a number, I’m already in line.
