Australian Police now have a BMW M5 Competition

And no, its not just for publicity. It joins Victoria Police’s fleet of BMW 530d’s, but with a top speed of 190mph and a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds, it is officially the fastest police car in Australia.

With a price tag of AU$229,900 (161k USD at todays exchange rates), it is likely the most expensive cop car in Australia too. But that didn’t come from the taxpayer’s pocket- BMW are loaning it to Victoria Police for a year.

BMW seems to think it’ll make a great cop car, and it’s hard to disagree.  BMW Group of Australia CEO Vikram Pawah said:

“Our 530ds have impressed the force with their combination of performance, comfort, dynamics and efficiency…Now with the incredible BMW M5 Competition entering Victoria Police service, the performance level has jumped up the scale. When combined with the safety of the xDrive four-wheel drive system, the M5’s all-round ability aspects makes it a natural fit for dynamic police duties.”

Running from the police is never a smart idea, but this is especially true in Victoria. Unless you are piloting a fighter jet, you’re going nowhere.
