The Petit Le Mans 2009 may have been a 10 hour race, but the race was called with less than 4 hours of actual competition. The LG Motorsports Corvette was delayed to grid and started in the back of the pack. The Robertson Ford GT was quickly over-taken by the Corvettes and slowly dropped back. Mother Nature must have engaged in a little pillow talk last night with Risi Competizione. Mika Salo in the Risi Competizione Ferrari took the GT2 win as a result of a precautionary pit stop to rain tires, just a few laps before the heavy rain fell. The rest of the GT2 field was caught in an emergency pit stop as the flood began and Ferrari took the lead just moments before the race was stopped. BMW Rahal Letterman Racing’s Jorg Muller took second with Team Corvette in third.
It was a toasty day in Atlanta with surprises o’plenty. In the Speed World Challenge Touring race, Bimmerworld finishing 1-2-3 overall. Realtime Racing followed just behind.
The Speed World Challenge GT race showed us a McLaren SLR getting a warm welcome at turn 10 and another KPAX win for Volvo.
In GT2, the Privateers ruled the day with the Robertson Ford GT and LG’s rebuilt Riley C6 stealing the first 2 grid spots. Left in their wake, the factory Pratt & Miller C6.R’s, RLR M3 GTR’s and the gaggle of Porsche RSR’s.
Ratcheting up the speed, Peugeot Sport didn’t waste any time ripping off their fast laps, uncorking their diesel 908’s to dominate the prototype field. Audi Sport’s pair of R15’s were left to contend with Simon Pagenaud in his downforce laden Acura ARX02, the first of the petrols.
I found this over at Axis of Oversteer and just had to share it with everyone. This is excellent HD quality film shot from inside of a BMW M1 Procar turning laps at Silverstone. To say the engine note from this car is spectacular simply does no justice. TURN UP THE VOLUME!
