New Front Wheel Drive Nürburgring Record in a Mini

it’s no secret that we love hot hatchbacks here at RFD.  And while historically, I’m a rear wheel drive guy, I have come to really love our long-term Focus ST.  So when I heard that a front-wheel drive car lapped the Nürburgring as fast as as a production Pagani C12 S and an Audi R8 V10, I was impressed.  When I found out it was faster than a Porsche 911 GT2, a Lamborghini Murciélago, and a Ford GT I was floored.

It’s still an unofficial record, run in a purpose-built vehicle with 286 HP and only weighing 2215lbs, but it’s pretty amazing nevertheless.  Watch the video below to see for yourself and meet the new front wheel drive Nürburgring record holder – Schirra Motoring Mini John Cooper Works driven by Christian Gebhardt.
